This particular design comes from Sheida Amiri-Rigi and dates back to 2019.
What makes it stand out is its modular structure, which can be customized depending on the specific flight mission. Whether you need a quadcopter, hexacopter, or even an octocopter configuration, this design has got you covered.
Each module also includes a dedicated slot for a camera—or more broadly, a functional payload mount. From the images provided, it seems like the camera in question might feature a fisheye wide-angle lens, adding to its versatility and potential applications. Truly, a remarkably creative approach!
That said, there are some areas worth exploring further.
For instance, the two-axis setup showcased in Figure 2 appears to have limitations—it doesn’t seem capable of flight since the motors depicted lack any tilt freedom.
Moreover, in the third inset image of Figure 5, the six-axis plus coaxial dual-rotor design raises questions about efficiency. Such a configuration could lead to significant power loss unless carefully optimized with distinct solutions for the upper and lower layers—considerations like blade pitch and motor types come into play here.
