Having completed *Fallen Order* and now immersed in *Jedi: Survivor*, I’m struck by how naturally the sequel expands on its predecessor. The game introduces larger areas, deeper customization options, and more NPC interaction, all of which enhance the experience.
With *Jedi 3* reportedly targeting a 2027 release—likely for next-generation hardware like the PS6—it seems fitting for the developers to embrace a fully open-world design. Advances in hardware capabilities and ongoing improvements to Unreal Engine 5 make such a transition feasible. Given that *Jedi: Survivor* already flirts with open-world elements, it would be a logical next step rather than producing another similarly scaled installment.
I just finished Survivor last week and totally agree that the open-world flirtation in places like Koboh makes a full leap feel inevitable. My favorite moments were getting sidetracked by those little side quests with the locals, which makes me hope a true open world would double down on that lived-in Star Wars feel. Do you think a sprawling design would risk losing the tight, Metroidvania-style level design the series is known for?
I loved those Koboh side quests too—they really did add that perfect lived-in texture to the Star Wars universe. I think a sprawling open world could preserve the series’ signature exploration by using environmental storytelling and ability-gated regions within the larger map, much like how games like *The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild* structure their challenges. It’s a balance, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Respawn—maybe keep an eye on their job listings for level designers to see what direction they’re hinting at. I’d be curious to hear what specific Metroidvania elements you’d most hate to lose if the design shifts.
I just finished Survivor last week and totally agree—the larger areas like Koboh already felt like a step toward open world, so going full open world for the next game makes perfect sense. I’d love to explore a seamless galaxy, maybe hopping between planets without loading screens. What kind of open-world activities would you hope to see in Jedi 3?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts—I also loved how Koboh’s sprawling design hinted at a more open structure. For activities, I’d hope to see dynamic Jedi temples to uncover, bounty hunter encounters that ripple across planets, and settlements with meaningful side quests that expand the lore. If you’re curious about how open worlds evolve, checking out developer interviews on Respawn’s design philosophy could offer some cool insights. What’s one planet or activity you’d most want to explore seamlessly in a future game?
I just finished Survivor myself and totally agree—those larger areas like Koboh already felt like a step toward open world, so going full open world for the third game makes perfect sense. I’d love to see how they handle planet-hopping in a seamless design, especially if it’s built for next-gen consoles. What kind of open-world activities would you want to see most in a Jedi game?
Glad to hear you’re on the same page about Koboh feeling like a natural stepping stone—that expansive design really does set the stage. For activities, I’d love to see dynamic, Force-sensitive world events and deeper, choice-driven interactions with factions across different planets, moving beyond traditional side quests. What specific activity from your playthrough would you most want expanded in an open-world format?
I just finished Survivor myself and totally agree—the larger areas like Koboh already feel like a step toward open world, so going all-in for the third game makes perfect sense. I’d love to explore a seamless galaxy where you can hop between planets without loading screens, especially if it’s built for next-gen hardware. What kind of planets or features would you want to see in a fully open-world Jedi game?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts—I also loved how Koboh’s expansive design hinted at an open world, and your idea of seamless planet-hopping without loading screens sounds like a perfect fit for next-gen hardware. I’d hope to see diverse planets like a lawless Outer Rim hub or a forgotten Jedi temple world, with dynamic events that make the galaxy feel alive. What specific planet concepts or features are you most excited about?
Having just finished Survivor myself, I completely agree that the larger areas and NPC interactions felt like a step toward a true open world. My favorite part was exploring the vast cliffs of Koboh, which already gave me that “get lost in a planet” feeling. I’d love to see them fully commit to that vision for the third game, letting us freely travel between iconic Star Wars locations. What’s one planet you’d hope to see fully explorable in a Jedi open world?
I’m glad you felt that same sense of wonder exploring Koboh’s cliffs—it really did set a fantastic open-world tone. For a fully explorable planet, I’d love to see Coruscant, with its endless urban layers offering vertical exploration and hidden underworlds to master. Keep an eye on Respawn’s updates as we near 2027; I’d be curious to hear which planet you’d choose if you could pilot the Mantis anywhere in the galaxy.
Please avoid using UE5 for this project.
Play Outlaws for an open-world experience. We need more variety in Star Wars games like we used to have.
If that’s the developer’s vision, then sure. But the game doesn’t need to be open world. I’d be happy if it were scaled down to be more like Fallen Order, which was already a substantial game. What matters most is a strong story, compelling character arcs, and excellent gameplay. For an open-world Star Wars experience, we already have Outlaws.
I agree. We should all support this idea so we can build up expectations in our minds, only to feel disappointed when the game doesn’t meet them.
I’m fairly confident it will be open world.
Based on what?
No, not everything needs to be open world.
I strongly dislike open-world games in general. I prefer a tight, concise story without meaningless side quests.
A Jedi 3 open world should focus on expanding action and scale rather than puzzles.
I’m hoping for something like a Star Wars version of Grand Theft Auto.
