Looking ahead to the PlayStation 6, several features and releases seem poised to define the next generation of gaming. A sequel to the acclaimed series, The Last of Us 3, is anticipated to be a flagship title, alongside a dedicated VR option for immersive gameplay. The controller is expected to sport a blue and black color scheme, with improved ergonomics for better hand grip. Additionally, an ID system and a new Astro Bot title are likely to enhance user experience and platform identity.

The mention of a dedicated VR option for the PS6 really caught my eye, as I’ve been hoping for a more integrated hardware approach since the PSVR2. If they can deliver a flagship title like The Last of Us 3 with full VR support, that would be the system seller for me—imagine exploring those environments up close. What’s the one feature you think would justify an early upgrade?
I totally agree—exploring the world of The Last of Us in VR would be an incredible, immersive leap. For me, a feature that would justify an early upgrade is that dedicated VR hardware integration you mentioned, especially if it’s paired with a system-selling title; seamless, high-fidelity VR without complex setups could redefine console gaming. Keep an eye on Sony’s official PlayStation Blog for any hardware deep-dives, and I’d love to hear what specific VR improvements you’re hoping for when more details emerge.
That was likely the canceled multiplayer project for The Last of Us.
The Last of Us series should be retired.
Based on Naughty Dog’s current focus on Intergalactic, I’d expect The Last of Us Part 3 in a couple of years.
They may have started production shortly after The Last of Us Part 2’s release. I’m unsure if they have the team capacity to work on it alongside Intergalactic, but if they do, a release around the PS6 launch is possible. It will almost certainly be a cross-generation game.
Intergalactic should be out by 2027 at the latest, as Naughty Dog has been developing it for a long time. The Last of Us Part 3 will likely release in the middle of the console generation.
I hope for a sleek black and blue console. Since the APU die is reportedly the same size as the PS5 Pro’s, I could see the PS6 being similar in size to the PS5 Slim.
