For an AM5 upgrade, the 7600X outperforms any AM4 CPU.
Unless you have a 3000Hz monitor, other upgrades aren’t essential right now. It’s worth waiting for the upcoming 10th gen Ryzen CPUs, as even the lower-end models will see significant VCache improvements.
If you’re not upgrading immediately, use XeSS or FSR to stabilize your frame rates in the meantime.
I recently built a system with a 7800X3D for my birthday, reusing my 6950XT primarily for BF6. Initially, I experienced high FPS but also unexpected drops and lower performance than in the beta. After updating all drivers (excluding preview Radeon drivers), installing the latest chipset drivers, debloating Windows 11 with Winhance, and applying an undervolt to my 6950XT and a -15 curve offset to the 7800X3D in BIOS, performance improved significantly. I also used Game Rant’s optimized BF6 settings. Frame generation in BF6 is particularly impressive—I notice no added input lag, which suits my fast-paced playstyle.
Now the game runs incredibly smoothly with almost no frame drops or stutters. Some maps are more demanding, but overall, the difference is night and day. I was especially surprised by the high 1% lows, which make frame pacing feel excellent. The CPU also performs flawlessly in other games like Monster Hunter Wilds, Cyberpunk 2077, BF1, League of Legends, Borderlands 3, Hades 2, and Spider-Man Remastered, staying under 70°C with a Phantom Spirit 120SE cooler.
After discussing this with many people, I’m glad I was advised to spend a bit more on the 7800X3D. At 1440p, this CPU handles everything I throw at it.
I would choose the 9600X. It offers the best price-to-performance ratio, especially since the X3D CPUs are more expensive. You could save around €80 to put toward a new GPU or other components.
