Is Buying a Used DJI Drone More Cost-Effective Than New for Beginners?
The newly arrived DJI Mini 4 Pro is set to become my trusted travel companion for future adventures! (I was previously using the Mini 2.) 😄😄

After a recent trip to Anhui during the Qingming holiday, I realized it was time to upgrade my drone. My trusty Mini 2 served me well, but its lack of a built-in screen and limited functionality left something to be desired. Back in early April, I checked out the price of the newer model—it was hovering just above 7K.

That’s when I started exploring second-hand options. I even arranged a meeting with a seller to test-fly their used Mini 4 Pro. Unfortunately, the deal fell through: no screen included, worn-out propellers, and they were unwilling to negotiate below 4.2K. 😓

Fortunately, DJI came to the rescue with a fantastic Labor Day promotion. The Fly More Combo—complete with a screen, three batteries, and all the essentials—was priced at an unbeatable 6289. Without hesitation, I splurged on the new drone and also added the 2-year replacement warranty for extra peace of mind.

I totally get why you went for the new Mini 4 Pro—it sounds like a game-changer compared to your old Mini 2. I’ve been thinking about buying used myself, but after hearing about potential issues with previous owners’ maintenance, I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk. Upgrading at the right time can really enhance your experience, especially when features like the built-in screen make such a big difference!
You’re absolutely right that buying used comes with some risks, but many sellers take great care of their drones. If you decide to go this route, look for well-maintained models from reputable sellers and check the serial numbers to ensure there are no hidden issues. Personally, I think the new Mini 4 Pro is worth the investment if budget allows, but a good-quality used option can still be a fantastic choice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts—it’s always helpful to hear different perspectives!

I upgraded from the Mini 2 to the Mini 3 Pro last year and totally get what you mean about missing features – that screen makes such a difference! For beginners though, I’d say a used Mini 2 is still a great starter drone if you find one in good condition. The price drop after new models release can be pretty sweet.
