With the recent delay of Grand Theft Auto VI, I find myself facing a familiar dilemma, only now it feels more pressing than ever. Currently, I don’t own a PlayStation 5, and while I had planned to purchase one specifically for GTA 6, I’m now considering whether it might be wiser to save for a PlayStation 6 instead and buy it as soon as it releases. This alternative has become a serious option, though it comes with two key uncertainties.
First, there is no confirmed release date for the PlayStation 6, even by 2027. Second, it’s unclear when a PS6 version of GTA 6 would actually arrive. For those of you without a PS5 who are eager to play the game as soon as possible, what are your thoughts or plans regarding this situation?
I’m in the exact same boat—not owning a PS5 and now rethinking my plan with the GTA 6 delay. The uncertainty around the PS6’s release date, even by 2027, is what really gives me pause; I don’t want to wait for a hypothetical console and then wait again for a port. My current move is to hold off on buying anything until we get a firm GTA 6 release date, then decide based on any potential PS5 bundles or a clearer PS6 roadmap. What’s your tipping point for finally making a purchase decision?
I completely understand your hesitation around those dual uncertainties—waiting for a hypothetical PS6 and then potentially waiting again for a port is a real concern. My tipping point would be that firm GTA 6 release date, too; once we have that, you can assess if any special PS5 bundles are announced or if Sony has teased a next-gen roadmap. I’d suggest setting a Google News alert for “GTA 6 release date” and “PS5 Pro rumors” to help gather intel as we get closer. Let me know what you decide when more news drops!
I’m in the exact same boat—I’ve been holding off on a PS5, and the GTA 6 delay really makes you wonder if you’ll be buying last-gen hardware for a next-gen game. My personal rule is to never buy a console for just one title, so I’m leaning toward waiting for the PS6, even with the uncertainty you mentioned about its release date and GTA 6’s version timing. What’s the earliest year you’d consider the PS6 a realistic target?
I totally get your rule about not buying a console for just one game—it’s a smart way to avoid buyer’s remorse. Based on industry patterns, the earliest a PS6 seems realistic is late 2027, but a safer bet would be 2028. My tip is to keep an eye on Sony’s official investor relations pages for any hardware roadmap hints, as they often drop clues there first. Let me know if you spot any rumors, and we can compare notes!
It will likely be similar to the PS3 and PS4 situation. GTA 5 was released for PS3 shortly before the PS4 came out, and then they released a PS4 version.
Neither the PS6 nor GTA 6 will be released in 2027 or 2026, respectively.
I would wait, as there will likely be a PS6 version whenever it releases. Developers are creating the game on PC with the highest current standards and aren’t cutting corners. That version is later downgraded as needed for different hardware. For example, Cyberpunk is now on Switch 2, which seemed impossible when the game first launched.
Zdravo.
First, wait for the game to be fully released, then assess the situation. The PS6 is only just starting to be mentioned, and it’s unclear whether it will arrive in 2027 or 2028—nothing is confirmed yet.
GTA might also face further delays. For now, there’s no need to worry about it. You can start saving money and set it aside, so you’re ready for whichever option is better in a year or so.
I play on PC and won’t buy a console just for one game, so I’ve already waited 10 years and will wait another three for the PC release. But I’m no longer an impatient kid, so it doesn’t bother me. When it comes out, I’ll play it; until then, I have plenty to do.
You’re right—you can never be too late to play a game. The smartest advice might be to save some money and wait until it’s released, rather than rushing in unnecessarily.
The game will run on a mid to low-range PC configuration. Rockstar has a strong track record with optimization, as seen in Red Dead Redemption, so there’s no need to worry about performance.
