GPU Upgrade for Lower Power Consumption

For users running a 6900XT with a 7600x processor at 1440p and 360Hz, the graphics card’s power draw—around 305 watts under load—can contribute to elevated system temperatures, especially when paired with a 750W power supply. If you’re aiming to maintain similar performance while reducing power consumption, several newer GPUs offer comparable output with improved efficiency. Alternatively, upgrading to a higher-wattage PSU, such as a 1000W model, could resolve thermal and power constraints without requiring a card replacement.

  1. I have a 7900 XTX and a 4080 laptop. Personally, I would wait for the 5070 Ti Super, but that’s just me. I game at 4K on competitive settings and am also learning some LLM development.

A 750W power supply should be sufficient for a 7600X and 5070 Ti Super setup. There’s no need to spend extra on a 1000W unit.

CES 2026 is approaching, so AMD or NVIDIA may announce new options. It’s only two months away—enjoy the wait in the meantime.
