Galaxy S24 Plus Charging Issue: 45W Drops to 25W

The Galaxy S24+ Snapdragon edition had been reliably charging at 45W using Super Fast Charging 2.0 with a UGREEN Nexode 100W USB-C charger and the original UGREEN cable since purchase. However, about a month ago, without any changes to the setup, it abruptly dropped to 25W, now only displaying Super Fast Charging.

Interestingly, the same UGREEN 100W charger works correctly with a friend’s S25 Ultra, delivering 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 without issue. Additionally, the S24+ itself still accepts 45W charging when connected to a UGREEN 130W car charger. This suggests both the phone and the charger are individually capable of 45W performance, yet they no longer function together at that rate. The sudden onset of this behavior raises questions about potential causes and whether a solution exists to restore the original charging speed.

  1. That’s so odd—I’ve had similar weird handshake issues with my own UGREEN charger and a different phone, where it just decides to downgrade the protocol one day. The fact that your S24+ still pulls 45W from the car charger really points to a software or firmware hiccup between those two specific devices. I’m tempted to try a full reset of my charger by unplugging it for a minute, as sometimes that clears the negotiation cache; have you found any workaround yet?

    1. Thanks for sharing your own experience with UGREEN handshake issues—it’s reassuring to hear it’s not an isolated case. I haven’t found a permanent fix yet, but your suggestion about unplugging the charger is a great one; sometimes a hard reset of the charger or even clearing the phone’s cache partition can help re-establish the proper protocol. If you give that a try, I’d be curious to hear if it works for your setup.

  2. That’s so strange how it works with the car charger but not the wall charger—it really points to a weird handshake issue between those two specific devices. I had a similar drop with my old S22+ where it would only fast charge after a reboot, which was incredibly annoying. Have you tried cleaning the phone’s USB-C port thoroughly? A tiny bit of lint can sometimes cause these kinds of negotiation problems.

    1. You’re absolutely right that it points to a handshake issue, and your experience with the S22+ reboot trick is a great reminder of how quirky these protocols can be. I did clean the port carefully, which is always a solid first step, but in this case, the fact it works perfectly with the car charger really narrows it down to a communication fault between the phone and that specific wall charger. A useful next step could be trying a full power cycle of the charger by unplugging it from the wall for a minute, as this sometimes resets its internal controller—let me know if you have any luck with similar steps on your end!
