  2. I plan to play it on PS5 and then buy it again on PS6. Hopefully, they’ll offer a discount for PS5 players, similar to the upgrade discount they provided when GTA V was released on PS5.

  3. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I believe the PS6 will struggle to sell. Consoles are approaching PC price points, and the PS5 generation has been underwhelming. While there have been some great titles, most were also available on PS4, and the true exclusives are still relatively new. No game has truly pushed the PS5 to its limits yet—both The Last of Us Part II and Red Dead Redemption 2 were PS4 titles. I’m confident GTA VI will be the first to fully utilize the PS5’s potential.

The PS5 Pro costs around $700–750, so the PS6 would likely exceed $800. If someone wants to play GTA VI on the best platform after its initial PS5 and Xbox release, why wouldn’t they choose PC? By the time the PS6 launches, the PC port would probably be in development or already released, depending on the timeline.

    1. The PS6’s GPU performance is rumored to be comparable to an RTX 5080, which currently costs around $1,200. Realistically, the PS6 should not exceed $1,000. From a cost-to-performance standpoint, a new-generation console at launch is hard to beat. With the ongoing rise in hardware component prices, especially GPUs, it’s unlikely you could build a gaming machine that matches a new console’s performance for anywhere near the same price.

      1. Consoles have generally offered good value for money in recent generations. However, the average console gamer isn’t seeking the most powerful system—they simply want to play the latest games. If they prioritized performance, they would likely consider PC gaming instead.

My concern is that players may eventually be priced out of their own platform. While this won’t happen immediately, it’s difficult to imagine it won’t occur at some point. Consoles can’t continue to undercut the market as technology costs rise without making significant compromises.

It’s also worth noting that while a PC at the price of a PS6 may not be more powerful initially, it offers the flexibility to upgrade components—an option not available on consoles. With technology advancing rapidly, consoles may become outdated more quickly.

  4. I plan to keep my PS5 as long as it continues to receive new games. I don’t expect the PS6 to be a significant improvement, though I’d be happy to be proven wrong if it remains reasonably priced. The PS5 Pro, however, is not worth it to me.

  5. I plan to wait for the PS6, which is rumored to release around 2027–2028. Buying a PS5 in late 2026 for just one game—even if it’s potentially the greatest game ever—doesn’t make sense for me. I don’t game much as it is; I still have a base PS4 that I rarely use, and few PS5 titles interest me. Waiting for the PS6 seems logical, especially since it will likely bring a variety of new games I’d actually want to play.

In the meantime, I might play GTA VI at a friend’s place once or twice. If not, I’ll watch clips on YouTube and avoid spoilers beyond the first few hours of the story.

    1. I’m in the same situation. I only have a PS4, and GTA 6 is the only game I’d buy a PS5 for. But I don’t want to wait another year just to buy a six-year-old console.

  6. I’ll play on PS5 for now. I don’t want to deal with shortages and scalping again like I did with the PS5, which took too long to become available where I live. I’ll consider getting a PS6 only if it’s a significant upgrade and when enough units are readily available.

  7. It’s a smart business move to release the game at the end of the current console generation and then re-release it with enhanced graphics and frame rates on the next generation. As you mentioned, they did this with GTA V and made a tremendous amount of money.

  8. I don’t see the PS6 releasing that soon. Rockstar, Naughty Dog, and Santa Monica haven’t even released their PS5 titles yet. Games from these three studios alone should drive strong PS5 sales for several more years.

    1. I don’t see the appeal of spending $750 on a console that will run GTA VI on six-year-old hardware. The PS5 uses essentially the same CPU architecture from five years ago, with only a $200 price difference from the Pro model. Even with the Pro, you’ll likely be limited to 30fps. This generation doesn’t make much sense, especially considering the weak game library and the fact that a five-year-old console now costs more in 2025 than it did at launch.

    2. I’m also debating this. I’m primarily a PC player, but I still have my original PS5 from 2021. I’m considering selling it to put the money toward a PS5 Pro. I’d be surprised if there were no benefits to the Pro version, especially since Rockstar seems to be working more closely with Sony than Microsoft. Even if those benefits aren’t available at launch, I expect they’ll come eventually.
