  1. I’m in the same situation. My laptop runs the FPS games I play, but it can’t handle story mode games at all—I get severe frame drops. I consulted with friends, and they suggested that based on my budget and the games I want to play, I should go for a console.

  2. I’d recommend the PS5. With the holiday season approaching, you’ll likely find sales or bundle deals that can lower the cost.

The PS6 is still far from release.

The new Steam console may limit your options, as many console games aren’t available on PC or Steam right away.

Ultimately, it depends on what you want to play. Since you seem interested in mainstream console games available on PlayStation, that would be my suggestion.

  3. If money is no issue and you want to play GTA VI at launch, get the PS5 Pro. It will offer graphical and performance enhancements for most of the PS5’s current and upcoming library.

If budget is a concern, the regular PS5 is a solid choice. The trailer was reportedly running on the base console, so you can still expect smooth 60fps performance.

Waiting for the PS6 is unnecessary—you might as well wait for the PS7.

The Steam Deck hardware is worth considering if you want to explore PC gaming with a console-like interface and ease of use.

  4. If budget isn’t an issue, the PS5 Pro is the best choice. For a tighter budget, the standard PS5 will work well. Based on the games you mentioned, you won’t need a Steam Deck.

  5. If your main goal is to play GTA 6 as soon as it releases, the PS5 Pro is a safe choice. GTA 6 is confirmed to launch on current-gen consoles first, so PS5 and Xbox Series will get it before any others. The PS6 is years away, and waiting for it would mean missing the initial launch window. While devices like the Steam Deck are excellent for portable, PC-style gaming, PlayStation offers a more straightforward experience for titles like FIFA, Forza, and GTA, without needing to adjust settings or check compatibility. Since you’re accustomed to consoles and prefer to simply power on and play, the PS5 Pro suits your style well. Getting one now will let you enjoy plenty of major games before GTA 6 arrives. Unless you’re extremely patient, I’d recommend buying the PS5 Pro and gaming without delay.

  6. Get the PS5 Slim now and enjoy years of fun with games like Forza, FIFA, and GTA, though with slightly lower fidelity. Once the PS6 is released, you can decide if you need the upgrade for more detail. Skip the PS5 Pro, as it will make the transition to the PS6 feel more significant.
