In April 2024, I assembled a new system featuring a Ryzen 7800X3D CPU, ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi motherboard, G.Skill DDR5 64GB PC 6000 CL30 RAM, Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 GRE Gaming OC 16G GPU, a pre-owned Corsair RM750x 750W PSU, and two pre-owned Samsung 860 1TB SSDs. Unfortunately, this setup has been plagued by persistent freezes and crashes that leave no diagnostic traces in system logs.
The problems began sporadically but escalated to multiple daily occurrences, culminating in complete POST failure. These incidents manifest as either complete system freezes requiring hardware resets or full crashes with black screens and maxed-out fan speeds necessitating power cycling. Additionally, the system suffers from exceptionally long POST times—approximately 75 seconds on BIOS version 3267—and noticeable lag within the BIOS interface itself.
My troubleshooting efforts have been exhaustive: reseating RAM and CPU, reapplying thermal paste, testing multiple BIOS versions, swapping components including the CPU (7600X), GPU (RX 6600XT), and RAM kits, disabling EXPO, resetting to default BIOS settings, and thorough memory testing. After overcoming significant hurdles with Asus support—who ultimately found no motherboard issues—I initiated an RMA through the retailer. As an interim measure, I purchased a used identical motherboard, which initially resolved the issues but eventually exhibited the same freezing behavior, leaving me without clear solutions despite extensive debugging efforts.
