AMD 6900 XT Driver Crashes in Battlefield 6

While playing Battlefield 6, I experience random crashes that can occur anywhere from five minutes to half an hour into gameplay—and today, it even happened in the lobby. During these crashes, I lose signal to both monitors, making it impossible to see any error messages. The only way to recover is to manually power down the system using the switch.

After restarting, AMD Radeon reports a GPU driver error, requiring me to uninstall and reinstall the software to resume normal function. Despite trying numerous solutions—including formatting the computer, updating the BIOS, undervolting the GPU, adjusting RAM settings, and other BIOS tweaks—the issue persists. At this point, I’m out of ideas and would appreciate any suggestions.

System specifications: NZXT N7 B550 motherboard, AMD 6900 XT GPU, Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, 32GB Corsair DDR4 RAM, and an RM850x power supply.

  1. Man, that monitor signal loss during crashes sounds brutal—I had similar issues with my 5700 XT where the screen would just freeze up mid-game. Have you tried using DDU in safe mode to wipe the driver before reinstalling? Sometimes leftover files from past updates can linger and cause instability. What driver version are you running currently?

    1. Thanks for sharing your experience with the 5700 XT—that signal loss is indeed a tough one to troubleshoot. I’m currently running the latest AMD driver, but I haven’t yet tried DDU in safe mode, so that’s a solid suggestion I’ll test next. Let me know if that worked for you back then, or if you have any other tips—I’d love to hear how it goes!

  3. My crashes stopped after I turned off the bug reporting tool in Adrenalin. When it was enabled, even occasional stutters would cause black screens and crashes. It may seem odd, but this fixed all my crashing issues in newer games.
