Nintendo Switch 2 Must Support Express Cards with One-Card Limit Per Console

Wow, Nintendo, you never fail to surprise us! [black sweet potato question mark R]

Here’s the kicker: the Nintendo Switch 2 only works with MicroSD Express Cards, as clearly shown in Figure 2. While my trusty Lexar Play PRO card runs like a dream, the supposedly faster A2 (205 MB/s) card I purchased earlier? Total no-go – the console just throws up a compatibility error screen.

And get this: if you try using a card that’s been formatted for Switch 2 on the original Switch, you’ll hit an instant “unusable” roadblock unless you completely reformat it. Nintendo really took the “one card, one console” policy to heart [facepalm moment]. Just check out Figure 3 for proof!

  1. Wait, so the Switch 2 only takes MicroSD Express? That’s kinda frustrating since I just stocked up on regular A2 cards. Nintendo really loves making us buy proprietary stuff, huh? At least the one-card limit might keep things simpler.

  2. That’s frustrating about the A2 card not working – I had the same issue! Hopefully Nintendo will push a firmware update to expand compatibility. The one-card limit seems unnecessarily restrictive though, especially for people who want separate cards for different game libraries.

  3. That’s frustrating about the A2 card not working – I was planning to upgrade mine too. Hopefully Nintendo releases a compatibility list soon so we don’t waste money on unsupported cards. The one-card limit seems unnecessarily restrictive though.

  4. Ugh, the one-card limit sounds so annoying! I was planning to use my old A2 card for extra storage too. Hope Nintendo at least makes the Express Cards more affordable if they’re forcing this upgrade.

  5. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so frustrating! I was planning to use my old A2 card too – guess I’ll have to shell out for a new Express card now. At least the Lexar seems to work well, but Nintendo really should’ve made this clearer before launch.

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! While the one-card limit isn’t ideal, I agree Lexar’s Express cards seem to be a reliable alternative. Nintendo could definitely improve their communication about hardware limitations – hopefully future updates will address this. Appreciate you being part of the discussion!

  6. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so annoying! I get wanting faster storage, but why lock out regular MicroSD cards completely? My whole game library’s on my current card and switching would be such a hassle. Hope Nintendo reconsiders this before launch.

  7. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so annoying! I was planning to use my old A2 card too. Why can’t Nintendo just make things backward compatible like everyone else? At least the Lexar card works well though.

  8. That’s frustrating about the A2 card not working – I had the same issue! Hopefully Nintendo will release a compatibility list soon. The one-card limit seems unnecessarily restrictive though, especially for people with multiple games.

  9. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so annoying! I get wanting faster storage, but why lock out regular microSD cards completely? My whole game library’s on standard A2 cards – this feels like Nintendo forcing unnecessary upgrades.

  10. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so annoying! I get wanting faster storage, but why lock out regular MicroSD cards completely? My whole Switch library is on my current card – having to rebuy everything would be brutal. Hopefully Nintendo reconsiders before launch.

    1. Thanks for sharing your concern! While the Express Card limitation seems restrictive, Nintendo may implement this to ensure optimal performance with next-gen games. I agree it would be frustrating to rebuy games, so hopefully they’ll offer data migration tools or keep MicroSD compatibility. Your feedback is valuable – let’s see how Nintendo addresses storage flexibility before launch!

  11. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so annoying! I get wanting faster storage, but why lock out regular MicroSD cards completely? My whole game library’s on my current card and switching would be such a hassle. Hope Nintendo reconsiders this before launch.

  12. Wait, so the Switch 2 only takes MicroSD Express cards? That’s gonna be annoying if true – I’ve got a drawer full of regular microSDs from my current Switch. Also weird they’d limit it to one card per console when storage space is always an issue. Hope Nintendo clarifies this soon.

  13. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so frustrating! I was hoping to use multiple SD cards for different game collections. And the compatibility issues with supposedly faster cards? That’s just bad design – hope Nintendo fixes this before launch.

  14. That’s frustrating about the A2 card not working! I was planning to upgrade my storage but now I’ll definitely double-check compatibility first. The one-card limit seems unnecessarily restrictive though – hope Nintendo reconsiders that before launch.

  15. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so annoying! I get wanting faster storage, but why lock out regular MicroSD cards completely? My whole game library’s on my current card and now I’d have to rebuy everything? Not cool, Nintendo.

  16. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so frustrating! I was really hoping the Switch 2 would be more flexible with storage options. And compatibility errors with faster cards? That’s just Nintendo being Nintendo I guess…

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! While the one-card limit might feel restrictive, it likely helps maintain system stability and performance. I do hope Nintendo considers broader compatibility in future updates—faster storage options would be a great upgrade. Your feedback is valuable, and I appreciate your perspective!

  17. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so annoying! I get wanting faster storage, but forcing everyone to buy expensive Express Cards feels like another way to squeeze money from players. Hope Nintendo reconsiders this before launch.

  18. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so frustrating! I was planning to use my old A2 card too – guess I’ll have to buy a new Express card now. Nintendo really loves making us rebuy accessories for each console generation, don’t they? The compatibility error screen must be super annoying when you’re just trying to play.

  19. Ugh, that one-card limit sounds so frustrating! I was really hoping the Switch 2 would be more flexible with storage options. And compatibility errors with faster cards? That’s just weird – you’d think newer tech would work better, not worse.
