Cursor Adds Support for Claude 4.0 Output: High-Quality but Expensive
This morning, I got hands-on experience with the 0.5 update. Claude 4.0 has rolled out four new models, but let me tell you—using Claude 4.0 is no small expense. It’s billed at the same rate as version 3, and what’s more, it’s nearly impossible to even get a spot in line to try it out. This morning alone, I attempted to use it three or four times, each attempt costing me between 18 to 20 fast advanced tokens.

After the billing update, take a look at the final image for a quick token test I ran this morning. The consumption was significant—it drained my fast advanced tokens. On top of that, there’s an additional charge. By default, it first deducts 500 fast advanced tokens, and once those are gone, it moves on to the extra bill.

Interestingly, the additional billing seems to follow the old rates: somewhere between $0.05 to $0.3 per token. If I were you, I’d pair it with the free DeepSeek option instead. Here’s another secret I uncovered: without any special tricks, using Claude 4.0’s sonet feature at a current 0.5x discount keeps generating cycles endlessly.

However, switching to oput eventually broke the loop. In the end, it still burned over 50 fast advanced tokens, but I managed to write a Go-based web crawler exceeding 300 lines. The results were incredibly satisfying, far surpassing version 3.7. The final stats were straightforward and informal—if you’re curious, feel free to give it a try yourself.
Today, I noticed that unlimited free usage for versions 3.7 and 4 is now a thing of the past. Free access has been completely shut down. Cursor has finally made its move.
If you’re looking to share a Cursor Pro account, reach out to me. For just 9.9 RMB, you can join a 4-person group plan, which includes 500 fast advanced tokens and a maximum additional bill cap of $21 (equivalent to 800-1000 fast advanced requests). Please note, this isn’t a Cursor education account or a quarterly subscription.
Yeah, I’ve been keeping an eye on Claude 4.0 too. The quality really seems top-notch, but the pricing and limited access are major downsides. I hope they open it up more soon because it feels like only the wealthiest users can enjoy it right now.
I feel like I’m missing out on all the cool stuff since getting access to Claude 4.0 seems so difficult. The high cost per token is also a bit discouraging, especially if the results aren’t consistently worth it. But when it does work, the output quality is impressive—definitely worth exploring further once it becomes more accessible.
Wow, the pricing for Claude 4.0 sounds brutal! I was excited to try it in Cursor, but those token costs add up way too fast. Hopefully they’ll improve availability soon—constantly fighting for a spot sounds frustrating.

Wow, the pricing for Claude 4.0 sounds brutal—18-20 tokens per attempt adds up fast! The output quality must be insane to justify that cost. Kinda frustrating they didn’t improve accessibility despite keeping the same rate as v3.
Wow, the pricing for Claude 4.0 sounds brutal—18-20 tokens per attempt adds up fast! The output quality must be insane to justify that cost. Kinda frustrating that it’s so hard to even get access though, feels like they’re creating artificial scarcity.
Wow, the pricing for Claude 4.0 sounds brutal! The output quality must be insane if people are willing to pay that much despite the access issues. Makes me wonder if it’s worth switching from my current setup or just waiting for the hype to settle.
