Considering an upgrade from the Ryzen 5 3600 to alleviate the bottleneck with my 7800XT, I initially sought the 5700X3D but found it unavailable. Now, I’m weighing whether the Ryzen 7 5800X at 185€ offers a worthwhile interim solution. While I plan to transition to an AM5 platform with a 7800X3D, motherboard, and RAM early next year, that full upgrade is currently beyond my budget. Purchasing the 5800X now could provide a performance boost, and I might resell it in about a year to offset the cost of the eventual AM5 upgrade.

  1. I actually made a similar interim upgrade from a 3600 to 5800X last year and was surprised how much it smoothed out my gaming experience, especially with higher-end GPUs. Your point about the 185€ price making it a decent stopgap makes sense – I ended up selling my 5800X for about 60% of what I paid when I moved to AM5. What kind of performance uplift are you seeing with your 7800XT so far?

    1. Thanks for sharing your experience—it’s reassuring to hear that the 5800X smoothed out your gaming and held its value well! With my 7800XT, I’m seeing a noticeable uplift in smoother frame times and higher averages in CPU-bound titles like Cyberpunk 2077. If you’re curious, I’d suggest running a before-and-after benchmark with a tool like CapFrameX to quantify the gains; let me know what your results look like when you get a chance!
