When upgrading a PC using Microcenter bundles, the choice between the 9700x, 7800x3d, and 9800x3d can be challenging given the varying price points. The 9700x bundle is available for $449.99, the 7800x3d for $549.99, and the 9800x3d for $629.99. Currently running a 5600x and 7900gre with dual 1440p monitors—one of which may be upgraded to a 4K OLED—I’ve noticed occasional CPU limitations in demanding games like Tarkov, alongside regular photo-editing tasks.

The main dilemma lies in whether the performance gains from the x3d models justify their higher costs. While the 9700x appears to be a solid option, many emphasize the significant gaming improvements offered by x3d chips, though the exact extent of these gains remains unclear. Additionally, the 7800x3d bundle seems less compelling compared to the alternatives. With a typical upgrade cycle of four to five years, the decision ultimately hinges on whether the additional investment will deliver meaningful long-term benefits.
